Dog Mange Disease

Has anyone ever treated their for demodex ( non contagious) with interceptor? Do they get worse?

before they get better? After years and years of searching for answers for my dog’s infected paws and ears, I took her to Auburn Univ Small Animal Research clinic and they found she was infested with mites. She also suffers from Cushing’s . They are treating her with antiobiotics (from the secondary skin infections caused by the mites) and interceptor (which is a pill for prevention of heartworms). She’s been on this course of for a week and looks and feels very bad. She’s lost her appetite and is very lethargic. I’ve taken her back to local vet who says to continue . If anyone has had personal experience with a dog who has been treated for demodex with interceptor can you please tell me your experience? thank you

We use a similar line of treatment. A common side effect is extreme lethargy. Its like chemo for dogs. It makes them almost miserable for a while, but is well worth it in the end. Avoid tiring the dog out too much, despite how badly it wants to play.

This isn’t a question. ;)

A1. CALL THE VET!

Q2. Why does my act goofy?
A2.I don’t know why it’s so hard for people to accept the fact that each animal has its own individual personality. They do it because they are unique, and they want to do it. The only explanation.

Q3. Should I breed my dog/cat/rabbit to the neighbor’s bcuz i rllly like baby animals?
A3. NO! End of story. The world is already overpopulated with homeless, diseased, mixed breed animals bred by people like you

Q4. How can I stop my dog/cat from acting like this when they are in heat?
A4. SPAY HER!

AMEN!!!

Here’s another one… “My (pet) won’t _____

a. move
b. eat
c. move or eat
d. walk
e. all of the above

….and I can’t (or won’t) take it to the vet. What should I do?

Answer: Surrender your pet, you don’t deserve it. You should have found a savvy vet for your animal before it got sick, just like you would do for your child!

Common sense is at an all time low…everywhere.

Italian Blood Disease

Thalasemia, low iron, what to eat?

My daughter has that disease called thalasemia and she has low iron. What can you suggest that she eat. She called me and asked what kind of steak to buy. What foods have high iron in them. She may get very weak, dizzey and just be tired all the time.

Who would have thought that being Italian or part Italian you could have this .

Any suggestions. If you are Italian and have not been check for this please be checked. Thanks

Being Italian, even if not personally involved, I know about thalasemia; this disease is definitely more wide-spreaded: it’s a “mediterranean” diseas, including Southern Spain and France, Greece, North Africa and Middle East, and even South Asia, though the percentage of healthy carriers in Sardinia is very high, in percentage.

She should avoid cow meat and generally dry meat (I suppose this is your main question); oyster, liver, peanut butter, tofu, cereals like Kellogs (iron in “plain” cereals is less easily absorbed by the body), plums, watermelon, spinach, green-leaved vegetables, raisins, dates, broccoli, broad bean, bean, peas.
Orange juice is not dangerous by itself, but it can make easier absorption of iron, while tea, milkand coffee do the opposite.
Be careful not to use cast iron pots.

Dogs Disease Symptoms

in Raccoons that is transmittable to dogs that is not rabies?

Someone asked a question about baby raccoons and her and one person responded that there is a disease that is fatal and transmittable from raccoon to dogs, but didn’t say what this disease was. Now Im sure he isn’t referring to rabies, so what is this disease? What are the ?

“Coon paralysis” is one that I have heard of. I don’t think it’s the same as leptospirosis since that affects the kidneys and liver, and coon paralysis attacks the nervous system. I think it’s transmitted through the saliva(bites) it’s been awhile since I heard of the case, but do know that it took over 6 months for the dog to get full use of his legs again.

added: found some info:
coon paralysis: the cause is unknown, but believed to be an immune-mediated disease with antibodies directed at the dog’s own peripheral nerves. It may be a virus or bacteria.
It occurs most often in hunting dogs or dogs who have direct contact with raccoons. Signs of the disease show up one to two weeks after contact. Paralysis begins as weakness in the hindquarters, and progresses forward until the dog is unable to stand. The paralysis can affect muscles involved in respiration and swallowing.Full recovery can take weeks or months.
