Plant Diseases Florida

plant diseases florida
Is it worth planting a florida dogwood with the many they have?

I want to a new dogwood called red pygmy. It is a florida dogwood which I don’t have to much experence with. What should I do to make this tree a success in my yard?

Depends where you live.

In my area, with occasional hard winters, I would plant it in a place that protects it from winter winds. It also would like part shade. Dappled shade, or morning light, with shade in the heat of the afternoon. Moist but well-drained, fertile soil, slightly acidic, is best.

I love them, and yes, kousa dogwoods are more resistant, but that layered, delicate stratified spring flowering is what I like about them, and the kousas, flowering layer, and with the flowers appearing AFTER the leaves come out…it’s just NOT the same plant to me.

Go for it.

P.S. I have heard that the florida dogwood “Appalachian Spring” is a florida variety that is more resistant to the Anthracnose that is becoming a problem for other dogwoods.
