Peripheral Nervous System Diseases

peripheral nervous system diseases
can you answer the following about Parkinson’s ?

1) what are the early symptoms
2) what are the late symptoms
3) how does it affect the central nervous system and the Peripheral nervous system
4) what are some treatements to this disease
5) whats the likely prognosis .eg)what happens to sufferers, life expectancy ect

Early symptoms- Patients may be tired or notice a general malaise. Some may feel a little shaky or have difficulty getting out of a chair. They may notice that they speak too softly or that their handwriting looks cramped and spidery. They may lose track of a word or thought, or they may feel irritable or depressed for no apparent reason. This very early period may last a long time before the more classic and obvious symptoms appear.

Late symptoms- The person’s face lacks expression and animation (known as “masked face”) or that the person remains in a certain position for a long time or does not move an arm or leg normally. Perhaps they see that the person seems stiff, unsteady, and unusually slow.

Central nervous system- When the initiates an impulse to move a muscle (for example, to lift an arm), the impulse passes through the basal ganglia (collections of nerve cells located deep within the ). The basal ganglia help smooth out muscle movements and coordinate changes in posture. Like all nerve cells, those in the basal ganglia release chemical messengers (neurotransmitters) that trigger the next nerve cell in the pathway to send an impulse. A key neurotransmitter in the basal ganglia is dopamine. Its overall effect is to increase nerve impulses to muscles. In Parkinson’s disease, nerve cells in part of the basal ganglia (called the substantia nigra) degenerate, reducing the production of dopamine and the number of connections between nerve cells in the basal ganglia. As a result, the basal ganglia cannot smooth out movements as they normally do, leading to tremor, loss of coordination, slow movement (bradykinesia), and a tendency to move less (hypokinesia).

Treatments- At this time, there is no cure for Parkinson’s disease. However, with proper treatment, people with Parkinson’s can lead a full and productive life. If you have mild Parkinson’s symptoms, your doctor may not prescribe any medication, but will schedule regular check-ups so that he or she is aware of any change in your symptoms and can prescribe the appropriate treatment.

There are several different drugs available to treat Parkinson’s disease. None of these will cure the disease or stop the progression of symptoms, but they can help with movement and keep you functioning as close to normal as possible. Medications commonly prescribed include levodopa, which helps the brain make dopamine; bromocriptine and pergolide, also dopamine-like drugs; selegiline, a drug that slows the breakdown of dopamine; amantadine, which is also used to treat , but has mild anti-Parkinsonian effects; and anticholinergic drugs, such as benztropine, trihexyphenidyl, orphenadrine, certain antidepressants, and antihistamines.

Prognosis- PD is not considered to be a fatal disease by itself, but it progresses with time. The average life expectancy of a PD patient is generally lower than for people who do not have the disease.[42] In the late stages of the disease, PD may cause complications such as choking, pneumonia, and falls that can lead to death.

Pig to Human Disease

pig to human disease
Are people panicking and acting hystericaly with this swine virus?

I mean people are wearing face masks even though the experts are saying they are useless(laughable).
People are slaughtering pigs even though it is a human to human infectious (dumb).
Oh Didum’s bite me
Its so f***king annoying you just had to answer didn’t you got any better questions?

I just got an email from my daughter who is security manager in a large government complex in Sydney & she sent the ‘real’ facts about the swine ‘flu as told to them. It is just another ‘flu, no different at all apart from the fact it comes from pigs. The precautions & treatment is exactly the same. Wash hands and avoid others with the disease.
